We must taste the bitter before we can appreciate the sweet..!!!

We talk about nature, water, land, fresh air, confidence and freedom but everything comes with a price.

I remember my time when I moved to Canada and was renting one of basement apartment where I was to pay for my stay and food.
One would imagine that if you pay you have no other obligation but that’s not how it was. I used to respect and treat the owner and his wife as my parents. I did everything in that house as if it’s my responsibility.
This nature of mine gave me a tough time to deal with my day to day things. When I was looking for a job, I was told to help with them in Jesus work. The owner was a priest who would make me translate his stories and poems in other Indian languages so that it can reach to those many people and that many people he will be able to convert them into Pentecostal Christians.
Initially, the way it was put on me as a task I thought I can ask them if my rent can be waived but then I was told I shouldn’t expect something like this when I am doing god’s work.
I saw that there was another room in the basement that was rented by another girl who came from Sri Lanka and we both didn’t take much time to become friends. It was her Yamuna who took me out in downtown and made me apply for jobs. Since the say I got the job the owner and his wife started telling me to stay away from Yamuna. It reached to a level where Yamuna moved out to some other place and I felt very lonely.
I was forced to go to church with them every Sunday and start praying every day in their house morning and evening.

Even though I was paying my rent and staying in that house. The couple made me do all their household chores such as help them washing dishes, cutting vegetables etc. I always took as helping them but it took too much stress when they started making me do things such as grate a whole coconut, cut the vegetables in different suggested sizes and pack them in zip-lock bags and put it in freezer during my day off.
Those days finishing my work at night and coming from downtown to home used to be almost mid-night and hence after a tiring day I went to bed at 1 am that too with a bad headache. At 4 am my door is banged asking me to wake up because we need to get up and pray for their son who is leaving for Malaysia for work. I had taken some medicine hence I couldn’t wake up and when I did wake up it was 7 am in the morning and the priest got so mad at me that he started scolding me for not being responsible and being part of the prayer. Even though I apologized for not joining the prayer he kept on repeating and making me feel guilty as if I did something wrong by not attending the prayer in the early morning for his son.
I really started feeling what am I doing. Why I have to be so obligated when their own kids don’t listen to them. As a human and as an agnostic person I did what I did but suffering and injustice is something that I am not taught to tolerate.

As they say everything has a limit. It was my time when I decided to move on and took an apartment to live by my own. Yes, in those days in a new place, new country it was fear in my mind. I was more scared because I was alone and being a woman I was scared of everyone around. It’s this fear that always kept me way from enjoying the freedom. Slowly, I moved from one job to the other and actually started living and organizing my life.
The freedom to live, the freedom to get to live by yourself and not be answerable to anything is something a relief which I only realized after what I went through.
Never suppress anyone even if you are in a position to because once a person starts disliking this behavior they want to go far from you. Love people and let people love you. Freedom should not be by losing anyone.

A trophy carries dust. Memories last forever

A short story slam at Bluebell Books - 40th Week...

Growing up as a kid was always fun and the best part is that I am still growing up... !
Being raised as a human and less of a girl actually helped me to liberate and understand people better. It also gave me an opportunity to do things which often they said girls cant do.

It was one of those things where when lot of my friends were picking the sports such as volley ball and dodge ball, I picked up the hockey stick.

"Don't let the skirts fool you
we are more than just chicks with sticks
Hustle and hit and never quit"

Yes, I love field hockey till date and I enjoyed playing, learning and dribbling the ball on the field. It was a pride when my sport teacher Mrs Bose used to tell me that she has come to see the shot and after that she will go home... it always inspired me to do better always.

One of her favorite student was me and she always called me P.T. Usha (Indian gold medalist Ex-Olympic player in running). I used to be the runner who eventually turned into a hockey player.
I was a fast runner, good dribbler with the ball, my one shot at the ball would cross the field and my teacher used to just clap and say few words of encouragement with the note - 'keep it up'!

Sports has always attracted me to an extent that I am always on the ground and playing. My enthusiasm and interest in sports is what made my sports teacher Mrs Bose to select me in the hockey team. Everyday we used to practice in the school ground and on weekends our team used to get to practice in the prestigious ground in National Defense Academy (NDA), where the cadets used to play. We used to get coaching as well and Kariappa used to be one of them. Its a blessing.

Those who know Kariappa as a coach who actually used to train the National hockey team of women in India. I always feel it was that blessed moment. There were other coach who trained how to harm the opponents but soon he was replaced and we learned some good techniques of hockey.
I was at the position of Left Center Half... !

After all that practice and hard-work the day came when we had to play against two other schools. This was not only a moment to win but also to play strategically such that we are selected in the team for the nationals.

I always wanted to play nationals and this was my dream. We played with two schools, one was with KV Sadan Command school and other was from Bombay - KV Devlali. We as a team from KVK, NDA played at our best. There was unity, team spirit and our passing and coordination on the ground was much appreciated by the referee and other coaches as well.
We won with KV Sadan Command but the Bombay girls were big and furious - I still have marks on my thumb that was hit by the hockey stick of the opposite team. Falling, hitting nothing ever mattered to me when I am on the field and so I performed well even though we lost with KV Devlali.
We had a great lunch at a 3 star restaurant as promised by our teacher Mrs Bose and I was told that I am selected for the nationals as well....but that year I scored less in my grade and hence from home everyone suggested sports is good for fun but not for career... and thus my dream to be a national player remained like a dream.

Today I live my dream looking at other hockey players and lacrosse player such as my daughter ;) I still get goose bumps when I watch a sport on the ground in the stadium....!

A dream that didn't come true yet, I live in every player that I watch.

Free from this world!!!

Why certain things happen?
And why we think we control everything?
When nothing is in our control in reality..
It looks like everything is in control…
Yet nothing is in control
Nothing is in anyone’s hand to make or change
Yet everything is blamed and pointed out
Why? Why? Why, it cannot be taken as
Things happen which is not in control
And when you want to free why things block?
Why not let it go and move on?
Why so many reasons to stay or not to stay
Why so many whys just for a peace?
Is peace so difficult?
I thought everything is possible
If you take that one step and…
Start the journey from the beginning…
Yes, start from scratch….
Rewrite again from the beginning…
I may get my answers or may not…
I may get to be where I desire to be
Free from this world!!!

Amen!

There is a place for everyone

Everything has a perspective
Good or bad, happy or sad
In one way its a place for kids
Clothes with latest fashion
No need of any tension
Yet when you see it
Everyone is in same attire
Sometimes a prestige point
When one see and ask about
Yes, this is from Children's place
Where we shop around!
The name sounds so cute
A place for the kids
But the prices is what makes
Feel, 'gosh' where am I?
Yet when you go in there
The children's cheer and gala
All over there...
There is a place for everyone
And there is this called ~ Children's Place
