The walls we build around us to keep sadness out also keeps out the joy.

Even though I know few languages from India, I never really explored that part of myself. In fact I always used to feel that this will help me when I visit to certain places and language wouldn’t be a problem :D

“Language is the blood of the soul into which thoughts run and out of which they grow”. ~Oliver Wendell Holmes

But recently, not only other foreign language movies but also I am watching Tamil movies too ;) and friends let me tell you …there are some real hot hunks out there too :D!

Well, what I want to talk about is this one ‘Kannathil Muthamittal’ ( A Peck On The Cheek), a Mani Ratnam’s film with A.R. Rehman's music. When I saw Mani Ratnam's name I said I have to watch this one, as I am a great fan of his work.

This story is about an adopted gal who is actually a child of Sri Lankan mother and during the civil war she comes to India as a refugee and delivers the kid and goes back leaving the kid in the orphanage. This kid is later adopted by Indian couple and they really take care of her but as there duty they also tell her the truth on her 9th b’day. The gal is now trying to find her roots and want to know why and what happened that she was left like this by her own mother.

“The finest emotion of which we are capable is the mystic emotion.” ~Albert Einstein

A very touching movie – thank god for the English subtitles:D…but in this movie other than the emotions of the kid, the adopted parents and there struggle to take her all the way to Sri Lanka to find the child’s mother and the emotions of kid and the real mother – in all these I got a chance to sneak through the beauty of Sri Lanka. WOW! That’s what it came to my mind and believe me dear Keshi…you were there through out in my mind as I was watching this movie only because you are the only gal whom I know so closely….am not sure if you ever been to as I never read the beauty of that place in your blog !

I am just in love with that place and some how in my mind I have the desire to go to that place one day.

“Beauty is unbearable, drives us to despair, offering us for a minute the glimpse of an eternity that we should like to stretch out over the whole of time.” ~ Albert Camus

When I saw how the missiles are thrown out any time any moment of the day…its scary! I wonder how people are leaving there but of all this I hear everyone has one thing common – ‘One day there will be peace’, when no one knows about it but they all are fighting for that unknown, not yet visible light in the darkest tunnel!

“As human beings, our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the World, We must become the change we wish to see in the world...” ~ MK Gandhi

For a moment I was not able to make any difference between LTTE and Al-Qaida as they all are fighting and taking revenge and in this entire innocent people – the casualties are the ones who are sacrificing there lives!

"As for future, your task is not to foresee it, but to enable it." ~ Antoine de Saint

When will this end? One of the Sri Lankan Dr says it will end when the developed nations stop making artilleries, bombs and the under developed countries throws all these weapons in the sea… :D what a simple solution and look people are still finding reason for peace!

“Every inside has an outside. Every outside has an inside and the two always go together”

I have been watching movies, the one which they shot after Saddam’s fall the first movie they shot in Iraq, then Kabul Express in Afghanistan and now this…all one common thing…I see kids suffering, without one leg or hand… if they themselves need a support of a stick to walk at this age how they can take care of there country, how they will support and what is the conclusion of all this…because every present generation has this hope to see peace with the coming generation!

“Words signify man's refusal to accept the world as it is.” ~Walter Kaufmann

What is the base? What are we creating to secure a peaceful nation or mankind in the coming generation? A very big question already in small kids mind going through…but then when these kids will grow …probably they will mature with the thoughts of the previous generation and guess what…life goes on!

"When it comes to the future, there are three kinds of people: those who let it happen, those who make it happen, and those who wonder what happened." ~ John M. Richardson

Kannathil Muthamittal is one of the best of Maniratnam! I was mesmerized by it when I watched it for first time. I have the MP3 of the songs. Ping me if you need those!

Thats true...it's a very simple solution. But not many ppl are willing to try it. WHY?

I always thought that PEACE is not difficult. We keep believing that its difficult and thats why we cant seem to reach peace.

Thanks for the review I think I would love to see this movie. It is sad whats happenning in sri lanka and other places.I like what the srilanken Dr said "it will end when the developed nations stop making artilleries, bombs and the under developed countries throws all these weapons in the sea" He could not have said it better. It is sad that it is the civilians who suffer most.

Dawn,

What a pleasant surprise... !!!

I think i am in right group of people :):)

I visited local library and saw the dvd of this movie. haven't heard of this movie anytime but something forced me to grab it.
I was speechless after seeing this movie. I've seen famous hindi movies by mani ratnam like roja, bombay, dil se... but this one is quite different and superb creation.

We are all different. Don’t judge, understand instead!!!
