“We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.”

This weekend was full of events, as you can judge from my last post…it was a weekend of birthdays!! Besides my mom there was another angel who turned one year and so one of our friends who’s age… I don’t think we need to know .. lol!!!

Yes and I want to wish my friend Manish ‘Happy Birthday’ and to all others ‘Happy Sankrant’, I know this day is known in different parts of state differently in India.

Please accept my best wishes to all!!!

“May you have love that never ends, lots of money and lots of friends. Health be yours, whatever you do and may God send many blessings to you.”

In all these celebrations I also happened to watch Aamir Khan’s movie ‘Taare Zameen Pe’!!! (Stars on the earth)

Yes as you all know it was a very controversial year that passed for Aamir and then this movie as well but overall I loved the movie…I liked every aspect that Aamir is trying to bring in to the competition world and I would say specially the Indian community who just load their kids with pressure just to maintain their prestige.

When I saw this movie – I found that it touched every age of the audience, every child and every parent was emotional! There was lot of learning and education that was left in the minds of people and I think one should take it with a pinch of salt – a positive outlook!

As philosophical we say theory is possible but not in practical but then if we keep thinking like this and not take that first stab then I don’t think anyone can change this world of cruelty! Yes I will agree with Aamir where he says this is worst than Child Labor!!!!

“Aim for the stars and maybe you'll reach the sky”

I came to work and with my couple of friends we were discussing and according to them they don’t agree what Aamir is trying to portray as they say no one wants their kid to be dumb and want to be the best and should be scoring highest as that’s the trend and that’s what is expected in the society or else you are not well respected! If one gets 94% and another gets 98% then 98 scored person and his/her parents display that with pride.

“To be a star, you must shine your own light, follow your own path, and don't worry about the darkness, for that is when the stars shine brightest”

I am not sure I was ever exposed to such society or may be my parents never put that pressure and they never took us to such a social aspect where really they were breeding horses that can run fast and win every race :)!
But they say that is the world and I can see in US itself some of the Indian community has created this pressure and you will see the schools called Challengers and what not…!!

Come on! What are we giving to our kids….a place where they have to loose their childhood before even they get into it and as they are born parents decide what their kids are going to be and how much they have to score and which school they need to attend??? Boy I would abandon such parents as all I can get from them is pressure and pressure and only scolding or ‘chakde’ to score more :O

“Don't try to fix the students; fix ourselves first. The good teacher makes the poor student good, and the good student superior. When our students fail, we as teachers, too, have failed.” ~ Marva Collins

Some how I still agree with what Aamir has tried send the message across…not stretch the finger so much that it breaks….let your child’s talent come out in such a way that it can become his career and bread earning factor!!!!

“Education is a companion which no future can depress, no crime can destroy, no enemy can alienate it and no nepotism can enslave.” ~ Ropo Oguntimehin

I agree every child is special but also every child has a right to grow happily and peacefully with a bit of patience and lots of love

Taare Zameen Pe – indeed we are stars of our parents and we are on earth let’s give them an opportunity to shine here rather than in the sky!!!

“We worry about what a child will become tomorrow, yet we forget that he is someone today.” ~Stacia Tauscher

Your review on Tare Zameen Par makes my desire to see this movie even stronger. And I do have couple of points on Pressure/schools and the comments you made - to give the alternate opinion on this topic.

Parents try to give the best school environment for their children based on their criterion - be it innovation/academics/creativity. I feel academics are fine as long as the kid enjoys and feels no pressure. And I hope we as parents do not pressurize or judge the kids on any of their academic or other achievements. We love them because they are our Stars forever!!

nissidhi: Good to receive your comments here :)! I am happy to receive your opinion that too an alternate one!
Well, my suggestion would be to watch the movie as that will give more logic to my post and secondly, its the discussion that I had with my friends
which I have not leaked out in all but the mere core of it was - "I dont have bloody time to teach you but I am ready to spend money as which tuition
you want to join go and join but get the highest marks and shine thats all I care" these are the exact words that I am quoting! So, we all care for
our kids and I think that is what makes everyone a parent! But are we analyzing what we think as good is not creating problems to our kids?
Are we taking that much time check with our kids as what is their problems in not getting things done as we expect or we are just busy in our routine
and let some institution to take care of it by giving some extra money to them? These are some questions that we should ask ourselves as everyone
wants the best for their kids better than everyone!!! :)
There is a saying in hindi - no matter how bad a child is but ask his mother what he is to her? :D
I hope you enjoy the movie ;) make sure you take some tissue papers with you ;)
Cheers
